A new library program has been springing up across the nation and Allegheny County — the StoryWalk®. Laminated pages from a children’s book are attached to yard signs, which are installed along an outdoor path. It is an innovative and delightful way for children – and families – to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time.

This summer, the library and the South Fayette School District collaborated to launch a StoryWalk® behind the South Fayette High School at the top of the Innovation Trail. Funding was generously provided by the Friends of the South Fayette Township Library.

“We are so excited to be able to offer a free interactive read-aloud experience for our children and their families, ” says Nicole Harding, Youth Services Librarian. “This StoryWalk provides an opportunity for children and their parents to get outdoors and have fun, while reading, talking, singing, and playing; all of which are great for developing early literacy skills.”
